Sharing and informing TaraharaSiders (citizens of Tarahara) and the friends of Tarahara and beyond Tarahara to the whole world about Tarahara in every possible way be it news, photos, articles and happening in and around Tarahara. Making the world aware of this little town called Tarahara. SR Thulung is the man behind this blogsite, who was born and bred in Tarahara few decades ago.
Tarahara is a small country town in Sunsari District of Koshi State in Eastern Nepal. The town is bigger than general villages (VDC) of Nepal in every way and in terms of service and facilities. It is definitely bigger and equipped with service and facilities and bigger than some of the other cities or nagarpalikas (Municipalities) of Nepal. But it has not been given the status of city by the officials. So I call it, Tarahara SaharPalika, status between village and nagarpalika (city).
Despite it being a bigger town than many other towns and places in Nepal, you may not find it mentioned in the map of Nepal. But other smaller and less known towns than Tarahara are seen mentioned in the map. I want this to be the things of the past and want to put Tarahara on the spot and make it visible on every map of Nepal.
Tarahara is built on Koshi Highway between Itahari and Dharan. It shares it eastern border with Itahari Municipality and north with Charkose Jhadi (Jungle). While south and west is part of the same VDC. Tarahara lies on the Eastern Terai plains of Nepal. Population of the town is about 25,000 Ц 30,000 and rising. The town is built on the western side of the Koshi Highway.
During the civil war the town did not attract much conflict and was not the battle ground for the government force and the Maoist rebels. It was peaceful in comparison to other towns and villages of Nepal. Which made a choice for many Nepalese from northern parts of the country to migrate to Tarahara and as a result the population of the town grew rapidly during the civil. Tarahara is mainly a farming country. Although it is agriculture country but education is booming with many young generation attending education system in English. Four English medium school from K-10, one Nepali medium school from 1-12 and many other primary schools in and around Tarahara.
The major economy of the town is agriculture and farming. But real estate (Jagga DaLal) is rising rapidly and taking its place as major economy of the region. Besides, Sekuwa is also a major economy booster of the town. Some of the popular means of transport of the town are bicycle, rickshaw and motorcycle and at present scooter is in the rise among many TaraharaSiders and especially amongst the females.
Bazaar (local market) days are Monday and Thursday. Roads are closed for cars and large vehicles as the roads are crowded on a market day. Shopping is cheaper in Tarahara in comparison to Itahari and Dharan. Few banks have opened their branch offices; market, modern retail stores and shopping centres are increasing. Building concrete roads around Tarahara are in the rise. Charkose Jhadi (Jungle) north of the town around Panipiya is a place for many wild and some rare birds of Nepal. Panipiya could also be transformed into a very suitable and possible the largest natural golf course in Nepal with natural creek running through the forest and on either side of the road through Panipiya and Jaributti.
